We have tried killing "our enemies"
and have learned this only makes more enemies. For every enemy we kill, we create ten more.
It is time to try something else. We now understand that committed peacebuilding, not aggressive war, is the key to our security.
Bush's disaster in Iraq (where Randi's own son recently served for a year) has taught us this. It is compromising our military, draining our economy, threatening our security, and ruining our humanity.
Randi will bring our troops home and take care of them when they get here. She came out in strong public opposition to the planned invasion of Iraq when the Bush administration first started selling it, at a time when public opinion was over 80% in favor of war.
She was never "fooled" by the "faulty intelligence" they presented to us to justify this precipitous act. You can count on her to prevent the
"next Iraq" -- the next unnecessary, ill-conceived, reckless war.
Our IL-8th District share of the cost for this war so far is $1.7 billion. This money could have funded for our district: 621,316 people with healthcare; 249,795 Head Start places for children; 197,091 students with university scholarships; or miles of uncongested highways.
Randi will put an end to this madness. She is the only one who will.
